Gapping up after supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported that OpenAI is partnering with the company - as well as MediaTek and Luxshare - develop an AI-first smartphone aimed at mass production by 2028 The device would shift away from traditional app-based interfaces toward AI agent-driven workflows, combining on-device intelligence with cloud-based processing for more complex tasks.

On watch amid heightened geopolitical tensions from stalled Iran peace talks and new disruptions near the Strait of Hormuz. On Saturday, US President Donald Trump announced that US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would no longer be travelling to Pakistan to discuss a peace deal with Iran over the weekend. Additionally, Axios reported that Iran may be offering a new proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and potentially restart diplomatic engagement with the US.

Trading lower premarket following reports of an impending AI-powered phone from OpenAI. Separately, Bernstein weighed in on the company’s iPhone business. The analyst said that the business remained strong in March, with global sell-through revenue rising 13% year over year and unit sales increasing 10%. First-quarter iPhone revenue is estimated to have grown 15%, driven by robust demand for lower-priced models despite softer-than-expected average selling prices. Apple is scheduled to post quarterly earnings after the bell on Thursday, April 30.

Revenue of $34.4 billion missed estimates of $34.82 billion while representing 2.9% year-over-year growth, while adjusted earnings of $1.28 per share beat estimates of $1.21. Postpaid phone net additions came in at 55,000, with broadband net adds were reported at 341,000. The company guided adjusted EPS between $4.95 and $4.99 per share for FY 2026, above estimates of $4.91, and projected year-over-year revenue growth in the Mobility & Broadband Service sector between 2% and 3%.

The company has struck an agreement with South Korea for the establishment of an AI campus in Seoul. This project, which would represent Google’s first AI campus outside of the US, is aimed at strengthening collaboration between Google, local engineers, and startups. The initiative, formalized through a new memorandum of understanding, reflects South Korea’s push to expand its AI ecosystem with support from Google DeepMind.
