Big-Tech AI Plays

+1.02%

On watch after Wedbush analyst Dan Ives announced his top AI “winners” for 2025. These names included Nvidia, Palantir, Microsoft, Tesla, Google, Apple, MongoDB, Salesforce, Pegasystems, and Snowflake; Amazon and Meta were notable excluded. Ives noted that he expects a 25% rise in tech stocks by 2025, driven by a $2 trillion AI boom and reduced regulatory pressures under a potential Trump administration. However, his note warned of risks from Fed policies and global trade tensions.

Crypto Stocks

+2.23%

Trading higher premarket as a group in tandem with a rebound in Bitcoin. The cryptocurrency traded lower on Monday, testing the key $92,000 level early during the trading session, but has reclaimed $94,500 as of Tuesday morning. Ethereum, which started out Monday on a positive note, is trading relatively flat around the $3,400 level. Separately, MicroStrategy is on watch after “Pharma Bro” Martin Shkreli pointed out the stock’s weakness on Monday; Shkreli has previously criticized CEO Michael Saylor’s Bitcoin purchasing strategy.

Super Micro Computer Inc (SMCI)

+1.50%

Trading higher premarket on no apparent catalyst. The stock has had a tumultuous 2024, which began with a notable rally in early January on higher-than-expected preliminary earnings for fiscal Q2 2024. Super Micro joined the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq earlier this year, though it has been removed from the Nasdaq as of December 23. The company is reported facing a DOJ investigation and risks delisting due to delays in filing its FY 2024 and Q1 2025 reports. Roughly 18% of its float is sold short.

Chinese ADRs

+0.43%

Several stocks in the group are trading higher premarket as investors digest positive performances for Chinese indices in 2024. The CSI 300 rose 15.9% to end the year, breaking a three-year losing streak, and the Hang Seng rose 17.9% to end a four-year losing streak. Analysts from Value Partners attributed the recovery to stronger-than-expected policy support targeting monetary easing, the property market, and capital markets.

Quantum Stocks

-1.25%

Continuing to receive an increased amount of attention as a group with strong premarket volume. The group has been on watch since the announcement of Google’s Willow chip for quantum computing earlier this month. Though these tickers have risen exponentially over the last two months, they tend to be very volatile for intraday trading. Most of the tickers in this group have short floats of at least 15%.
