AI startup Groq announced a non-exclusive licensing deal with the company to expand access to high-performance, low-cost AI inference. Several Groq leaders, including founder and CEO Jonathan Ross, are joining Nvidia to help scale the technology. Groq will remain independent. Prior to the announcement, CNBC reported that Nvidia had struck a $20 billion deal to buy assets from Groq.

On watch after the Korea Herald reported that Samsung is expected to begin mass production of HBM4 memory in February 2026 at its Pyeongtaek facility after passing Nvidia qualification tests. The HBM4 chips are slated for Nvidia’s next-gen Vera Rubin platform in 2H 2026 and Google TPUs, with rival SK Hynix also planning to start HBM4 production around the same time.

DigiTimes Asia reported that Alibaba has placed an order for the company’s China compliant M1308 AI chip. This follows a report from MLex earlier this week suggesting that Alibaba is weighing the possibility of ordering 40,000 to 50,000 M1308 accelerators from AMD.

On watch after Waymo temporarily paused its robotaxi services in the San Francisco Bay Area on Christmas Day due to National Weather Service flash flood warnings. This follows an earlier service halt caused by a PG&E substation outage, after which Waymo said it implemented fleet-wide software updates to better handle such disruptions.

Oil analyst June Goh at Sparta Commodities noted that traders should exercise caution with this news catalyst because these strikes are not directly targeting crude pipelines.

China urged cooperation and fair treatment as ByteDance agreed to transfer control of TikTok’s US operations to an Oracle-led investor group to avoid a potential ban. He Yongqian, a spokesperson for China’s Commerce Ministry, commented on the deal during a press briefing, saying that Beijing expects the deal to comply with Chinese law. Separately, Oracle is in on track for its worst single-quarter stock performance since 2001 following heightened AI spending concerns and a revenue miss for Q2 2026.

Gapping up after the company announced that it has recovered all customer data following a breach linked to a former employee who used stolen security keys to access basic information from roughly 33 million accounts. Only about 3,000 accounts’ data was saved and later deleted, with no evidence the information was shared externally.

Data from Vanda Research shows that retail investors are on pace to purchase roughly $8 billion in Palantir stock in 2025. This data, up-to-date as of December 8 and reported by CNBC on December 25, shows an 80% year-over-year uptick in Palantir stock purchases by retail investors. Bank of America reiterated its $225 price target and Buy rating on the stock earlier this week.
