Several companies in the group are set to report earnings before the bell. JPMorgan posted GAAP earnings of $4.81 per share and sales of $43.738 billion, beating estimates of $4.11 and $41.707 billion, respectively. The results were bolstered by strength in its fixed income trading and investment banking segments. Wells Fargo posted lower-than-expected sales for Q4 and reported a 7% year-over-year drop in net interest income, though earnings per share beat estimates. Goldman Sachs exceeded its GAAP EPS and sales targets, noting that all its targets from its 5-year growth strategy have been met. Citigroup beat revenue estimates in various segments, including markets and investment banking, and announced a $20 billion buyback program.

Tesla Inc (TSLA)

The company’s Model Y and Model 3 were the top 2 best-selling EV models in the US in 2024, according to research from Kelley Blue Book. The Model Y commanded 28.6% of EV market share in the US last year, while the Model 3 held 14.6% of the market share. Total EV sales in the US jumped by 7.3% year-over-year, driven by automaker incentives, favorable lease deals, and federal and state support.

Meta Platforms and Microsoft Corp

Both companies are on watch after announcing cost-cutting measures on Tuesday. Meta plans to implement performance-based job cuts, targeting a 10% "non-regrettable attrition" rate by the end of the performance cycle, according to an internal memo. Underperforming employees will be categorized into tiers, with those rated as “Met Some” or “Did Not Meet” facing termination. Meanwhile, CNBC reported that Microsoft will pause hiring for its consulting segment one week after announcing plans to lay off less than 1% of its workforce.

Quantum Stocks

Trading higher as a group as Nvidia and Microsoft announce quantum-themed events and programs. Nvidia announced its first-ever Quantum Day, scheduled for March 20 as part of its GTC conference. Microsoft, meanwhile, unveiled its Quantum Ready program on Tuesday to help businesses strategically prepare themselves for the “quantum era”. Separately, IonQ announced a partnership with the University of Maryland and the State of Maryland, with the goal of attracting over $1 billion in investments to boost the region's quantum technology ecosystem.

Intel Corp (INTC)

On watch after announcing plans to spin off Intel Capital, its $5 billion venture capital arm, into an independent firm as part of its larger restructuring efforts. Amid cost-cutting measures and efforts to revitalize its chip business, Intel has spun off smaller divisions, replaced CEO Pat Gelsinger, and advanced plans to separate units like Altera and its foundry business. This announcement follows a steep decline in Intel’s stock price during 2024, marking its worst yearly performance since 1971.

UBS also highlighted risks to consensus estimates, cautious investor sentiment on guidance, and the need for stronger evidence of competitive gains or significant contributions from partnerships to regain optimism.

The company’s US-listed shares are trading higher after GuoLine Advisory, a Singaporean firm, revealed that it increased its position in the stock by 20.5% during Q4 2024. GuoLine picked up 58,900 shares of Novo Nordisk during the quarter and now holds 346,500 shares valued at $29.8 million, according to the firm’s 13F filing. Novo Nordisk closed 4% closer on Tuesday in sympathy with Eli Lilly after the latter company lowered its FY24 revenue guidance by 3%.

William Blair initiated coverage of the stock with an Outperform rating, citing its potential to capitalize on younger consumers' preference for transparent, innovative alternatives to traditional financial services. The analyst highlighted SoFi's superior user experience and innovative products as key advantages over traditional banks. SoFi has a short float of approximately 12.2%.

Approximately 30.8% of the stock’s float is sold short.

NVIDIA Corp and Taiwan Semiconductor

Both stocks are on watch after Reuters reported that Nvidia is in talks with Taiwan Semiconductor to produce its Blackwell AI chips at TSM's new Arizona plant, set to begin volume production in 2025. While TSM plans to handle the front-end process in Arizona, the chips will still require packaging in Taiwan. Separately, Nvidia has signed a cooperation agreement with the Vietnamese government aimed at increasing the country’s AI development, and has acquired Vinbrain from VinGroup.
