Gapping up after the company announced that it expects to soon resume sales of its H20 chips to China. The statement from Nvidia indicated that the company has received assurances from the US government that licenses will be granted, reversing a previous halt due to export restrictions. This shift follows CEO Jensen Huang’s lobbying efforts, including a meeting with President Trump, and comes as part of broader US-China trade easing. Advanced Micro Devices later announced that they will resume shipping their MI308 chips to China once they receive license approvals from the US.

Gapping up after S&P Dow Jones Indices announced that the company will be added to the S&P 500 index as of market open on July 18. The Trade Desk is set to replace ANSYS in the index following the latter company’s acquisition by Synopsys. Robinhood and Applovin, which are eligible to be added to the S&P 500 but have been overlooked in recent rebalance announcements, are trading marginally lower premarket.

The three financial institutions reported quarterly earnings before the bell on Tuesday. JPMorgan posted adjusted earnings of $4.96 per share and sales of $45.68 billion, beating estimates of $4.48 and $44.167 billion, respectively. CEO Jamie Dimon noted “significant risks” to forward economic outlook due to tariff uncertainty and geopolitical tensions. Wells Fargo reported better-than-expected earnings and sales for the quarter, but its net interest income declined by 2% year-over-year. Citigroup also reported stronger-than-expected earnings and revenue, with earnings of $1.96 per share and sales of $21.66 billion beating estimates of $1.63 and $20.887 billion, respectively.

On watch after announcing a $25 billion investment over the next two years to expand data center and AI infrastructure across the PJM Interconnection, the largest U.S. electric grid. As part of the plan, it will spend $3 billion to upgrade two Pennsylvania hydropower plants under a deal with Brookfield Asset Management, helping meet surging energy demands driven by AI and data centers. Additionally, CoreWeave is gapping up after announcing plans for an up-to-$6 billion investment in a new AI data center in Pennsylvania.

Trading sharply higher as a group after both Nvidia and AMD indicated that they are preparing to resume shipping their AI chips to China, pending licensing approval from the US government. This news has been perceived as bullish for Chinese tech companies, with the tech-heavy Hang Seng Index closing 1.6% higher on Tuesday. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is expected to deliver a press conference from Beijing on Wednesday, July 16.

Trading lower as a group in tandem with a pullback in Bitcoin. The cryptocurrency made new all-time highs above $123,000 on Monday morning but drifted lower throughout the session, closing just below $120,000. Bitcoin is trading near the $116,500 level as of Tuesday around 7:35 AM ET. Ethereum and XRP are also trading lower following strong sessions on Monday.

On watch after a report from the International Data Corporation (IDC) revealed that the company’s market share contracted in China for Q2 2025. The company reportedly shipped 9.6 million units in the region for a 13.9% share of China’s smartphone market, giving Apple the fifth-place spot this quarter behind competitors like Huawei and Xiaomi. The IDC report also revealed that China’s smartphone market as a whole declined by 4% on a year-over-year basis.

Tesla Inc (TSLA)

The company is selling its Model Y SUV in India for $69,770 and is opening its first showroom in Mumbai, marking a major step into the Indian market. Tesla plans to expand with a showroom in New Delhi and build out local infrastructure, including service centers, charging stations, and logistics hubs.

Susquehanna raised its price target for the stock from $255 to $265 while maintaining a Positive rating.

Trading marginally higher premarket after BofA Securities issued a positive note on the stock, maintaining its Buy rating and raising its price target from $765 to $775. The analyst CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s announcement of massive AI infrastructure investments, including a 1GW "Prometheus" supercluster by 2026 and a 5GW "Hyperion" project by 2030. BofA views this move as a strong signal of confidence in Meta’s growth and AI leadership, though it expects rising Capex and Opex to be key discussion points in the upcoming earnings call.
