Several companies in this space are scheduled to report earnings this week. Alphabet and AMD are scheduled to report after the bell on Tuesday, Microsoft and Meta are scheduled to report after the bell on Wednesday, and Amazon and Apple are set to report after the close on Thursday; all six companies are trading higher premarket. Trading higher as a group following a strong performance for Bitcoin over the weekend. The cryptocurrency traded higher on Saturday and Sunday and is poised to make gains on Monday, trading near the $68,600 level as of Monday morning. Bitcoin and related tickers traded lower on Friday afternoon after the Wall Street Journal reported that cryptocurrency firm Tether is facing an investigation from the Justice Department over anti-money laundering violations; Tether’s CEO denied the allegations.

Oil Stocks
-2.02%
Trading lower as a group in tandem with a 6% drop in Brent crude and West Texas Intermediate oil futures. This decline follows reports that Israel did not damage Iran’s energy facilities during its attack on Iran’s military facilities this weekend. Oil prices and energy stocks surged higher in the days following Iran’s attack on Israel in October 1.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSM)
-1.84%
Trading lower premarket after Bloomberg reported that Morris Chang, the company’s founder, warned that rising geopolitical tensions have ended the era of free trade in semiconductors. Chang also reportedly stated that these tensions represent the company's greatest challenge as global powers compete to control chip production. TSMC, a key supplier to Nvidia and Apple, recently halted shipments to a China-based customer due to US sanctions, while also expanding operations in the U.S. with significant government support.
The Boeing Company (BA)
-0.65%
On watch after Bloomberg reported that the company is preparing to raise over $15 billion through a combination of common stock and convertible preferred shares to strengthen its financial position amid a machinists' strike and regulatory challenges. The company recently entered a $10 billion credit agreement supported by institutions including Citibank and Goldman Sachs. The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday that Boeing, facing a $6 billion quarterly loss, is also considering selling its space business to remain competitive in a difficult market.
Trump Media & Technology and Phunware
+7.04%
Both stocks are trading sharply higher premarket as the 2024 US Presidential election looms; Donald Trump, Trump Media’s majority shareholder and former US President, is the Republican candidate in the election. Phunware, whose platform provided the basis of the app for Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign, tends to trade in sympathy with Trump Media. A hotly-anticipated episode of the “Joe Rogan Experience”, wherein Rogan interviewed Trump, aired on Friday, October 25.

Trading higher as a group as investors continue to react to the People’s Bank of China’s decision to maintain its key policy rate and inject liquidity into the banking system. On Friday, the central bank kept the one-year medium-term lending facility rate at 2.0% and introduced short-term tools to guide the market, including the injection of $98.36 billion USD into its banking system.

Trading higher as a group amid a drop in oil futures after Iranian oil facilities were spared in an attack from Israel this weekend. Analysts from Citi noted that this decision makes it less likely that oil production will be disrupted in the case of further escalation in the Middle East. Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings are both scheduled to report earnings this week, and American Airlines reported an EPS and sales beat last week. Separately, Delta is on watch after filing a lawsuit against CrowdStrike related to the 7,000 flight cancellations it faced after CrowdStrike’s outage on July 19, 2024.
