In The News

Tesla Inc (TSLA)

-0.80%

Bloomberg reported that the company will unveil a cheaper version of the Model Y on Tuesday, designed with fewer features and lower-cost materials to offset the loss of the $7,500 US EV tax credit that expired this month. The move follows months of hints from Elon Musk and aims to boost affordability amid waning incentives. Additionally, an editor for EV news site Electrek indicated that a Tesla plant manager in Berlin said the new Model Y variant will be approximately 10% less expensive.

Advanced Micro Devices Inc (AMD)

+3.77%

The stock closed nearly 24% higher on Monday after AMD announced a multi-year, multibillion-dollar partnership with OpenAI. Jefferies upgraded the stock from Buy from Hold and raised its price target from $170 to $300 following the deal, which the analyst cited as strong validation of AMD’s AI roadmap. Morgan Stanley raised its price target for AMD from $168 to $246 while maintaining a Buy rating.

AppLovin Corp (APP)

-3.24%

Bloomberg reported that the SEC is investigating the company’s data-collection practices. The investigation was reportedly triggered by a whistleblower complaint and short-seller reports alleging that AppLovin violated partner platform agreements to deliver more targeted ads. The probe, handled by the agency’s cyber and emerging technologies division, has not resulted in any formal accusations.

Trilogy Metals Inc (TMQ)

+222.01%

Gapping up after the White House announced a $35.6 million investment for a 10% stake in the company, with warrants to buy another 7.5%. This deal aligns with the White House’s ongoing efforts to boost domestic critical mineral supplies in the US. President Trump also signed an executive order approving an access road to Alaska’s Ambler mining district to accelerate US copper and mineral production.

International Business Machines Corp (IBM)

+4.66%

The company has entered into a strategic partnership with Anthropic, aiming to integrate Anthropic’s Claude AI models into IBM’s software lineup. This integrate will start with a new AI-focused development environment aimed at boosting productivity and ensuring strong governance and security. Early testing with over 6,000 IBM users shows an average 45% productivity increase, signaling major efficiency gains for enterprise software development.

Crypto Stocks

-1.25%

On watch as a group after Bitcoin reached all-time highs for a second consecutive day. The cryptocurrency traded as high as $126,290 on Monday, surpassing Sunday’s record-setting high near $125,750. Crypto miners are leading the group on Tuesday morning after Iren signed multi-year cloud deals to rent out its NVIDIA Blackwell AI chips, with about half of its 23,000 GPUs already under contract. These agreements are expected to bring in roughly $225 million a year by late 2025, growing to over $500 million annually once all GPUs are in use by early 2026.

The US Supreme Court refused to block parts of a lower court ruling forcing Google to make major changes to its Play Store, the latest update in Google’s ongoing legal battle with Epic Games over app payment practices. The decision allows app developers to soon direct users to external payment options without Google’s fees, marking a significant win for Epic and other developers challenging Google’s dominance.

Ford Motor Co (F)

-1.10%

The Wall Street Journal reported that a September 16 fire at Novelis’ Oswego, New York aluminum plant is expected to disrupt production for Ford and other automakers for months. Ford, the plant’s largest customer, is expected to warn investors about the potential impact when it reports quarterly earnings later this month.

SoFi Technologies Inc (SOFI)

+2.81%

Politico reported that officials in the Trump administration are weighing a plan to sell portions of the federal government’s $1.6 trillion student loan portfolio to private investors. These officials are emphasizing high-performing loans, with the goal of reducing the government’s balance sheet. The proposal, discussed with Treasury officials and finance industry executives, faces major legal and logistical hurdles and raises concerns about the loss of borrower protections.

Quantum Stocks

+2.45%

Several stocks in the group are trading higher premarket on individual catalysts. IonQ announced that it has completed its acquisition of Vector Atomic, a quantum sensing company. D-Wave Quantum, meanwhile, announced that it will be participating in LA Tech Week events at the University of Southern California from October 14 to 17. Rigetti is also on watch after Benchmark hiked its price target for the stock from $20 to $50.
