In The News

Palantir and Dell

+6.04%

Trading sharply higher as a pair after being announced as new additions to the S&P 500 as of the start of the trading session on Monday, September 23. Erie Indemnity is also set to join the index, while American Airlines, Etsy, and Bio-Rad Laboratories are set to be removed.

PLTR, DELL

Apple Inc (AAPL)

+0.61%

On watch ahead of the company’s “It’s Glowtime” event at 1 PM ET, where Apple is set to unveil its iPhone 16 lineup with a focus on integrating artificial intelligence into flagship features rather than traditional hardware upgrades. The event at Apple Park follows the company's introduction of Apple Intelligence at its June developer conference, highlighting new AI capabilities including integration with ChatGPT for an enhanced Siri experience. This announcement comes amid competition from Huawei, which has received 2.7 million pre-orders for its tri-fold phone as of Monday and is preparing for its own product launch.

Tesla Inc (TSLA)

+2.02%

Trading higher premarket after data from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) revealed that the company exported 23,241 vehicles in August, marking its best month in China thus far in 2024. Separately, Tesla supplier Panasonic Energy announced that it is preparing to mass-produce high-capacity EV batteries.

The Boeing Company (BA)

+4.52%

Trading higher premarket following a tentative agreement with its workers' union in the Pacific Northwest, potentially averting a strike scheduled for September 13. The agreement includes a proposed four-year contract with a significant wage increase and a commitment to build Boeing's next commercial airplane in the Seattle area, pending approval by workers later in the week.

Alphabet Inc (GOOGL)

+0.99%

The company is set to face U.S. antitrust prosecutors in Virginia on Monday over allegations of stifling competition in online advertising technology, which the Justice Department claims has dominated the infrastructure supporting news and information flow through extensive ad sales. The case represents a significant challenge to Big Tech monopolies, focusing on Google's practices in ad tools. The company has defended itself by citing lawful technological development and competition in other digital markets like apps and connected TV.

Semiconductors

+1.47%

Rebounding as a group from sector-wide weakness during Friday’s session, which saw sector leader Nvidia close 4% lower. Super Micro Computer is set to attend the Goldman Sachs Communacopia Conference on Monday, while Nvidia is scheduled to present at the conference on Wednesday morning. Additionally, the Financial Times reported technology from Arm Holdings is powering Apple’s new iPhone 16 series, to be unveiled at Apple’s event at 1 PM ET.

NVDA, SMCI, ARM, MU, AMD, INTC, MRVL

Cryptocurrency Stocks

+2.54%

Trading higher as a group as Bitcoin continues to recover after a market-wide tumble on Friday that saw the cryptocurrency drop below the $53,000 level. Bitcoin traded higher on both Saturday and Sunday and is trading above $55,000 as of Monday morning.

COIN, MARA, BITO, IBIT, ETHE, MSTR, RIOT, CLSK, HUT

Trump Media & Technology Group (DJT)

+8.01%

Trading sharply higher premarket ahead of the second presidential debate of the 2024 U.S. election cycle on Tuesday, September 10, where major shareholder and Republican candidate Donald Trump is scheduled to face off against Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. On Friday afternoon, Trump’s sentencing in connection to a hush money case was postponed until November 26, 2024.

Chinese ADRs

-1.66%

Trading lower as a group amid ongoing weakness in the Chinese stock market. Chinese stocks are approaching a five-year low amid widespread bearish sentiment driven by disappointing earnings and a struggling economic recovery, reflected in the CSI 300 Index's recent 13% decline from its May high and weakening yuan. Government stimulus efforts have not resolved underlying economic challenges, including deflationary pressures, weak consumption, and a prolonged property downturn.

BABA, NIO, XPEV, LI, BIDU, BILI, JD, PDD

Cannabis Stocks

+3.43%

Trading higher as a group after Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump made a post on Truth Social in support of rescheduling marijuana. Trump noted that he is interested in voting in support of Amendment 3 in Florida, which would allow for the purchase, possession, and usage of cannabis by anyone over the age of 21.
